Don’s path to owning race horses began in 1953 when he was 19 years-old and had recently married his high school sweetheart, Arline. They have now been married over 63 years with 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
His career path included being a minor league baseball player, milk man, encyclopedia salesman, advertising salesman, weekly newspaper publisher, national advertising manager, international magazine publisher, television producer, motivational speaker, thoroughbred owner and author.
In 2010, he founded Live Your Dream Racing Stable with Hall of Fame Trainer, Bob Baffert as the start up trainer for the group. Their major thrust was to claim ready made horses, have some fun and get a few pictures in the winner’s circle. In 2015 at age 79, he elected to cut back, spend more time as an author and enjoying his first love in horse racing, the breeding of thoroughbreds.
His current autobiographical book is titled, “Driven by The Passion To Own Race Horses.” He has a mare in Lexington in foal to Mucho Macho Man with a weanling filly-foal by the sire at her side. He also has a two year-old filly by Acclamation in training in California. When asked, what he sees as the most memorable thing that has happened in his life, he answers, “I’d like to think that it hasn’t happened yet.”
