Dr. Amy M. Gill completed high school in Chappaqua, New York. Dr. Gill received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Maryland in 1983. Dr. Gill conducted her graduate studies at the University of Kentucky, receiving a Master of Science degree in Equine Nutrition in 1989 and a Doctorate in Equine Nutrition and Exercise Physiology in 2000. Prior to completing the requirements for her doctoral degree, Dr. Gill spent many years breaking and galloping racehorses and working on the racetrack as an equine physical therapist. From 1995 to 2005, Dr. Gill was the owner/manager of Amber Lane Farm, Inc. in Versailles KY. The farm services included breeding, foaling, breaking, sales preparation and representation and rehabilitation.
As a consultant, Dr. Gill has worked extensively with several feed manufacturers including Alltech, Inc., Triple Crown Nutrition, Cavalor, Hallway Feeds, Southern States Cooperative, Renaissance Nutrition, Milestone Equine, Western Hay and Cargill Animal Nutrition (Nutrena, Agway). Her services include writing technical bulletins and articles, presenting educational seminars and performing on site farm consultations. In 2004, Dr. Gill produced a TV show series with Cargill Animal Nutrition for the satellite channel RFD-TV. Dr. Gill wrote the copy for and was featured in several of the episodes. The show focused on several key issues involving the feeding and management of all types of horses. Dr. Gill is also involved with many large breeding farms and performance horse stables, providing consultation on nutrition and exercise programs. Some of Dr Gill’s clients include Todd Pletcher Racing, Michelle Nihei Racing, Anthony Dutrow Racing, Michael Stidham Racing, Mark Hennig Racing, H. James Bond Racing, John C Kimmel Racing, Glencrest Farm, Siena Farm, Hill N Dale Farm, Eutrophia Farm, Gulf Coast Farm, Harris Farms, Silver Oaks Farm, Sunday Morning Thoroughbreds, Woodstock Farm, Ashleigh Stud, Valkyre Stud and Highclere.
Dr. Gill specializes in growth, metabolic, immune and exercise related disorders in the horse and has authored numerous articles regarding these subjects for publications such as The Backstretch, The Whole Horse Journal, The Horse, The Holistic Horse, TrailBlazer and the Thoroughbred Times. In 2005, Dr. Gill joined forces with Agro – Solutions, a European based company, to distribute Siliforce Horses ®, a biologically available source of silicon that increases mineralization in bone and collagen content in bone and connective tissue in horses of all ages. The product is also being investigated as a preventative therapy for osteoporosis in human and degenerative joint disease in companion animals. As a result of this involvement with Siliforce Horses®, Dr. Gill has become interested in formulating supplements to augment healthy bone growth and repair, correct metabolic disorders, and alleviate symptoms associated with rigorous training regimes.
In 2006, Dr. Gill developed a proprietary line of targeted nutrient therapies called EQUI-FORCE Equine Products, LLC. These products were formulated with the goal of helping to alleviate clinical symptoms associated with developmental orthopedic disorders, assist in the repair of damaged or abnormal bone and soft tissue, correct metabolic imbalances, improve tolerance to exercise and prevent muscle myopathies in the performance horse.
Dr Gill is an avid equestrian competitor and is currently campaigning Caesar, a blue eyed, cremello snow cap appaloosa as an eventer. Dr. Gill is also currently breaking Elluvium, a two-year-old Mineshaft colt which she will race in partnership with trainer John A Booker Jr.
