Cathy Shircliff

Representing:
Churchill Downs Director of Equine Industry Relations
Biography:

Cathy grew up in Louisville, Kentucky spending much of her childhood tagging along with her horse owner dad to Churchill Downs. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgetown University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Louisville.

After a variety of entrepreneurial professional pursuits, Cathy started her career at Churchill Downs in 2018, holding the roles of Event Manager and Director of Community Relations, before moving into her current role of Director of Equine Industry Relations. In this role, she serves as a liaison between owners, trainers and other racing stakeholders and CDI’s racetrack leadership and corporate team.

A true animal lover, the Thoroughbred has always been Cathy’s primary draw to racing. In her professional role, she considers overseeing aftercare initiatives a great privilege and takes great pride in CDI’s footprint in thoroughbred aftercare - including facilitating the opening of Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation’s farm at Chestnut Hall and Second Stride’s expansion to Chorleywood Farm. She serves on the board of Thoroughbred Charities of America and the advisory board of Second Stride, Inc.

Cathy lives in Louisville with her two poorly behaved dogs (Dingo and Duckie) and loves to travel with the various syndicates she and her family participate in. Through a small miracle in self-control, she has only formally adopted two of her family’s horses upon retirement – General A Rod and Twinspired. She has taken the reins of Hot Pink Stables, managing the stallion career of their homebred Somelikeithotbrown and entering into a few partnerships for active racers under this banner.
