Fifteen years ago a life-long love of horses found its form when former ballerina and model, Sheila Rosenblum, purchased her first string of NY Bred racehorses. A devoted mother - raising two children in Manhattan - and an avid weekend rider, Sheila realized that entering the horse racing field as an owner would be the perfect opportunity to turn her equine passion into a business.
Working with top New York trainer, Linda Rice, Sheila became a pied piper for her friends, inspiring many women to become a part of the sport. They made an already thrilling & nail-biting pastime even more fun with group trips to Kentucky, visits to stables and memorable girls’ days at the races watching their horses run.
Although she treasures the early days of the all-female syndicates, her most beloved horse, La Verdad, was hers alone. A true treasure, La Verdad was a born champion and earned nearly $1.6 million in her racing career, winning multiple graded stakes and eventually the Eclipse Award for American Champion Female Sprinter in 2015. It was Sheila’s devotion to and affection for this incredible horse that lured her into becoming a racehorse breeder. For several years Lady Sheila Stable’s Stakes winning broodmares were boarded at Edition Farm. Two of her mares took part in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame’s popular Foal Patrol program which allowed horse fans to observe top broodmares pregnancies, births and watch their adorable foals spindly first steps in real time!
From that first foray as a racehorse owner, Sheila has experienced the highs and lows as an owner, partner, pinhooker, breeder, and seller. She has owned and bred scores of horses, earned over $9 million in purses, bred and sold a number of sale-toppers, raced across the US, UK, and France, and supported numerous important charities such as New Vocations Aftercare and Belmont Childcare Association.
The business is a gamble but in addition to the many awards that Lady Sheila Stable has garnered over the years – this year Sheila was lucky enough to be a partner in both the top two-year-old filly and top two-year-old colt in the New York Thoroughbred Breeders awards. She is extremely grateful for all the excitement, friendships, guidance, travels, and fun times she has experienced along the way.
