Briar Hill Farm is one of the longest continually operating full service thoroughbred facilities located in Massachusetts. The farm has been in the Brown family since 1850. We offer the best of care for foals, broodmares and stallions. Our breeding record is unsurpassed with over 85% in foal each year. We are the only farm in Massachusetts offering breaking and training on a 1/4 mile track.
We have been foaling mares for over 35 years with an average of 15 to 20 foals born per year (25 in 2012). We offer 24 hour live foal watchers with veterinary help in town only 10 minutes away if needed. This year will again be one of our bigger years with 22 mares to foal already booked for 2013. We have a quarter mile race track with safety railing on the inner rail and post and board fencing on the outside. The track is a specially formulated surface that is very kind on legs. The turns are banked 3 degrees. We start training March 1st on the track. The young horses are broke on a small indoor track before being sent to the outside track. Again, 2013 is a big year with 24 horses in training from March 1 until the opening of Suffolk Downs. 12 horses will remain at the farm and are either being broke or running from the farm.
