SMARTY JONES remains one of the most popular and attractive sire prospects in the nation. The darling of Pennsylvania when he captured the first two jewels of the Triple Crown while undefeated, SMARTY JONES returned to his home state with an excitement rarely seen in the industry. And his reputation as a sire continues to grow - in 2011, he was the leading U.S. sire by international earnings standing outside of Kentucky, with just four crops to race! His sensational 2011 season saw his runners amass more than $5.5 million worldwide and included Japanese star KEIAI GERBERA, who surpassed lifetime earnings of $2 million during the year. SMARTY JONES is the sire of 2012 Triple Crown nominee ISN’T HE CLEVER, winner of the $150,000 Borderland Derby and second in the Sunland Derby-G3 in late March, as well as 3-year-old Korean sensation SMARTY MOONHAK, dominating winner over older rivals in his two starts this year. In the first quarter of 2012, SMARTY JONES topped Mid-Atlantic sires by progeny earnings for the year.
JUMP START, one of the most consistent sires in nation, had his best year ever in 2011. The son of A.P. INDY was the highest ranked U.S. sire standing outside of Kentucky (by North American earnings), and his eight 2011 stakes winners included top 3-year-olds PRAYER FOR RELIEF and PANTS ON FIRE. His three-time Derby winning son, PRAYER FOR RELIEF, has $1 million in earnings while capturing four starts in 2011, including the Gr. 2 Super Derby, Gr. 2 West Virginia Derby and Gr. 3 Iowa Derby. The classic-running PANTS ON FIRE is now closing in on $1 million, with victories in the Gr. 2 Louisiana Derby and Gr. 3 Pegasus Stakes.
E DUBAI, an exquisitely-bred son of Mr. Prospector from the family of champions Raven’s Pass and Rainbow View, is an international sire with graded/group winners in many countries, including the U.S., U.A.E., New Zealand and Panama, led by the likes of Gr. 2 Godolphin Mile winner SKYSURFERS; 2012 track record-setter FORT LARNED, winner of the Gr. 3 Skip Away S.; Gr. 2 Churchill Downs S. winner ACCREDIT; and Santa Anita Gr. 2 San Pasqual S. winner AGGIE ENGINEER. The leading sire in the Northeast in 2011 by number of stakes winners, with nine, E DUBAI had 22 stakes horses for the year. Since 2007 (when his oldest runners were 3), E DUBAI’s progeny earnings have exceeded $2 million a year, and he had more than $5.3 million in 2011.
One of the best stallions of his generation, SILVER TRAIN ranks among the top-10 third-crop sires in the nation in 2012! His son J J’S LUCKY TRAIN, a graded stakes winner last year at 3, hit the board in Aqueduct’s Rise Jim S. in his 4-year-old debut. It was J J’S LUCKY TRAIN’s eighth time on the board in stakes company, from 14 starts, and pushed his earnings to $411,614. SILVER TRAIN, a handsome dark bay son of major winner Old Trieste, and grandson of A.P. Indy, entered stud after a sensational career on the track. He captured the six-furlong Breeders’ Cup Sprint as a 3-year-old (in a rapid 1:08.86), took the esteemed Metropolitan H.-G1 at one mile the next year and had victories in the Gr. 2 Jerome H. and Gr. 2 Tom Fool H., while also placing in three stakes (including the Gr. 1 Cigar Mile). He earned over $1.2 million in 17 starts. Among the national leaders every year since his first crop came to the races in 2010, SILVER TRAIN was the leading second-crop sire by number of winners in 2011, and was among the top-10 freshman sires by earnings in 2010. He is the sire of 18 stakes horses in his first two crops!
FAIRBANKS, a multiple graded stakes winner of $879,768 and $1.85-million Saratoga select sales topper by world-renowned champion and the nation’s leading sire the past thee years, Giant’s Causeway, launched his stud career in 2009 with the biggest book of mares for any new Pennsylvania stallion in history. And reviews have been sensational for his first crop of yearlings in 2011, which include a $115,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall sales purchase. Of his 16 yearlings sold to date, they have averaged nearly four times his stud fee! In three seasons of racing, FAIRBANKS consistently put up big numbers – in 13 starts on the main track at ages 4 and 5, he recorded Beyers of 100 or higher seven times, with the other six in the 90s – and had a career best 115 Beyer speed figure at Santa Anita in the Tokyo City H.-G3. LOVE OF MONEY has risen quickly up the sires ranks with just two crops to race. With modest-sized crops, he has 14 percent stakes horses from starters, including 2011 Gr. 2 Futurity S. winner JACK’S IN THE DECK, who came back to finish third in the Gr. 2 Sanford S. at Saratoga, and COACH FRIDGE, winner of 2011 Maryland Million Nursery S., plus Aqueduct stakes-placed Love Those Boots. That’s three stakes horses from just 10 juvenile runners in 2011! The devastatingly easy winner of the Gr. 2 Pennsylvania Derby over a field that included Gr. 1 winner Tapit, millionaire Pollard’s Vision and Gr. 1 Belmont S.-placed Royal Assault, LOVE OF MONEY is a son of one of the best stallions standing outside of Kentucky for the past decade, NOT FOR LOVE, out of a SMARTEN mare.
